How to contest a traffic ticket
The process for contesting a traffic ticket depends on the type:
Parking Tickets
Parking tickets can be issued by the city, private lot owners, businesses, and institutions. Most parking ticket issuers have a formal appeals process available to those who want to challenge the ticket. Typically, the window for appeals are 14-30 days from the date the ticket was issued. Online and mail are the 2 most common ways parking tickets can be appealed.
Traffic Tickets (Moving Violations)
More serious violations like speeding and red light tickets can require the driver’s presence in court.
Infractions (speeding, red light) - May be given the option to appear in court (can also appeal) or avoid court and just pay the fine.
Misdemeanors (DUIs, no license) - Must appear in court (can also appeal)
