The process for contesting a traffic ticket depends on the type:

Parking Tickets

Parking tickets can be issued by the city, private lot owners, businesses, and institutions. Most parking ticket issuers have a formal appeals process available to those who want to challenge the ticket. Typically, the window for appeals are 14-30 days from the date the ticket was issued. Online and mail are the 2 most common ways parking tickets can be appealed.

Traffic Tickets (Moving Violations)

More serious violations like speeding and red light tickets can require the driver’s presence in court.

  • Infractions (speeding, red light) - May be given the option to appear in court (can also appeal) or avoid court and just pay the fine.

  • Misdemeanors (DUIs, no license) - Must appear in court (can also appeal)
