Marriage Certificates
Request copies of certified, US government-issued birth certificates for you or your loved one.
If you've ever tried to obtain a social security number, apply for a passport, enroll in schools, get a driver's license, gain employment, or apply for other government benefits, you've probably been asked to show your birth certificate and prove your identity. Birth certificates are important and useful because they're one of the ultimate forms of identification — you can prove your age, citizenship status, and identity.
How can you get a copy of your Marriage Certificate?
Get copies of certified, US government-issued marriage certificates right from your laptop to prove your marriage, obtain Visas, permits, financial benefits, and more.
Marriage certificates are legal documents issued by the government, proving that a marriage took place.
Marriage certificates are extremely useful for the following purposes:
Legally changing your name to your spouse's name
Sharing health benefits
Filing taxes
Applying for loans and mortgages
Applying for new passports/bank accounts
Arranging property succession to a spouse
While every married couple gets a certified wedding certificate within a month after their legal wedding, it's easy to accidentally misplace them. If you no longer have a copy, or you need to obtain one on someone else's behalf, you need to request one directly from your state or county government.
But getting a certified copy isn't an easy process.
In order to get a certified copy of a marriage certificate, you have to file a formal request with your state government. This involves filling out the request form, having it notarized if necessary, printing and signing it, and mailing it along with copies of your government-issued ID and a check/money order to your state Vital Records office.
How Can DoNotPay Help?
DoNotPay has made it easier for you to request certified copies of your marriage certificate.
Through our Certificates of Marriage product, you can digitally apply and request certified copies straight from your laptop. We'll walk you through a few questions to locate the certificate and verify your identity before generating a completed request form. Once you confirm that everything is correct, we'll mail it to the state records office or the specific county with a check to cover the application fee on your behalf.
If the application requires a notarization, we'll help you schedule an online appointment through our virtual Notary product.
Here's how it works:
1. Go to the Certificates of Marriage product on DoNotPay.
2. Select whether the certificate belongs to you or a relative/loved one. If it belongs to someone else, enter the details of both people on the certificate, and select/upload evidence that proves your relationship with them. If the certificate is yours, enter the details of your spouse.
3. Enter the city, state, and county where the marriage certificate was issued in as well as the date it was issued on.
4. Indicate what you will be using this certificate for, and choose whether you need an authorized or certified copy.
5. Enter your contact information and shipping address. Upload copies of your government-issued identification, such as a driver's license.
6. Choose whether you would like to electronically sign this form or not. Once we generate the form, verify that all of the information is correct
7. If you need the document to be notarized, schedule a notarization appointment using our Notary product. Otherwise, proceed to our Mail Checks product and let DoNotPay mail-in your request form with a check on your behalf.*
And that's it! Your marriage certificate copy request will be sent and on its way! You should hear back from them within a few weeks with updates once your request has been processed.
